The purpose of the incarnation was to give “life” which constitutes the basis of fellowship between the believer and God the Father and God the Son.

The Fundamental Test of Doctrine - Part 1

A) Biblical view of Christ. v1-4

Jesus had to be truly God, but also truly man who actually suffered and died upon the cross in order to be the acceptable substitutary sacrifice for sin   (Read Heb Ch2.v14-17)

In the Gospel of John and Ch.14:6  Jesus says

       “I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man cometh unto the Father but by me”

I am the Way -

  speaking of his human title -

 “Son of Man”.

I am the Truth -

speaking of His Divine title -  

“Son of God”.

I am the Life  -

  speaking of His Heavenly title -  “Lord of Life  

As the Saviour he came as Son of Man, but His origin was from above and His message was from above.  In John Ch17:17. Jesus prays to the Father “Sanctify them in the truth; you word is truth

Jesus does not use the adjective “true” i.e. your word is true” Rather he uses a noun “truth”; saying in effect God’ Word is not simply “true” but it is the truth itself, not just some form of higher standard of truth.  But rather it is the final standard of truth. God’s Word is the ultimate standard of truth, the reference point by which every other claim to truthfulness is measured.  

“In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God”.

All truth is fully engulfed with in Him, All the mysteries of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Him.To know Christ is to know the truth in its most complete, and assessable form.

We may know the truth about Christ, many true things are said about Him, but we are not saved by truths about Him, but by Himself the source of truth.. As The Lord of Life and of Heaven

Jesus was the source of life to men that they might know the Truth and be able to walk in the way.

Ezekiel’s  prophecy and vision . likens the earth to a valley full of bones, very many and very dry, all the reservoir of life were spent, its fountains died away in the wastes of the sand - .Thus saith the Lord God unto these bones. Behold I will cause breath to enter into you and ye shall live. The Son of God brought life from the eternal Throne, from God Himself and became a life giving Spirit.. (Ezekiel 37.v1-14)   (v5 )

B) The second test  the biblical view of sin v5-10

The walk of fellowship “in the light” depends  upon the believer’s having a right concept of God ie. His absolute holiness. We cannot choose how we come to  God, In God there is no taint of evil consequently our approach to God must be on the basis of a right relationship, one of  righteousness, not of our own because we have no righteousness, but on the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Through the precious shed blood of Calvary. (see the return of the prodigal son)

The other requirements for a walk in fellowship is having a life separated from sin, claiming the cleansing power of Christ’s sacrifice from the daily defilement of sin.

Walking in the light shows us through the indwelling Holy Spirit that the Christian

1. Still possesses  an old nature

2. He still needs the forgiveness of      sins
